In 2008 Les Carmes approached OPSC to discuss the replacement of their current website with a more functional website which gave a more accurate representation of the services provided.
The first meeting was held in the UK to discuss their requirements from which we developed a proposed solution including design and key functional feature specs.
Some key requirements for phase 1 of the new solution included the following.
- Rustic design to give a feel of the atmosphere in the impressive converted monastary at the farm.
- Bespoke content management facilities to avoid the need for licensing from an off the shelf solution.
- A comprehensive WYSIWYG editor for editing web pages and managing the uploading of media to the website.
- Integration with Google maps to allow visitors to work out routes to and from the chambre D'hote.
- Support to later incorporate multiple languages.
- Animated AJAX based popups and a Flash menu to give a dynamic feel to the website.
- Email including junk filtering, anti-virus protecting, reporting and integration with Microsoft Outlook for managing contacts, tasks and calendars.
- Nightly backups of the email and website.
Once agreed we began the development of the solution which was hosted on our dedicated servers in the London docklands.
After running the solution for several months we visited Les Carmes in France to get feedback on the solution and to discuss the needs for phase 2 of the development.
Phase 2 is due to begin towards the end of 2008 and will include additional CMS functionality, inclusion of multiple languages and additional pages to replace some popups and provide further information to visitors.
